Import an existing wallet into Leap

If you already have a wallet from another app, you can import it into Leap and keep the same accounts and balances. Leap supports importing with a recovery phrase (12 or 24 words) or a single private key.

Importing is the right choice when you are switching from another wallet, adding a hardware account, or installing Leap on a second device. Nothing about your wallet on the original app changes — you just gain a second way to access it.

How to import a wallet into Leap

You can import with a recovery phrase (recommended — it brings every account back) or with a single private key (for one address only).

  1. Install Leap Wallet

Get the browser extension or the mobile app from the official store. Make sure the publisher is “Leap Wallet” before you install.

  2. Choose “Use an existing wallet”

On the welcome screen, pick the option to import. Do not pick “Create a new wallet” — that would generate a fresh phrase you do not need.

  3. Pick recovery phrase or private key

Choose the seed phrase option to import every account at once. Pick private key only if you want to bring in a single address from another wallet.

  4. Paste or type your secret

Enter the recovery phrase in order, or paste your private key. Leap validates each word and warns you about typos before you can continue.

  5. Set a local password

The password unlocks this device only. You will still need the recovery phrase to restore the wallet anywhere else.

  6. Done — review your accounts

Open the dashboard, switch between chains, and confirm your balances are loading. Imported accounts appear instantly; full transaction history may take a moment to populate.

Leap Wallet import FAQ

No. Importing creates a second copy of access to the same accounts. The wallet still works in the original app, and any change you make in one is reflected on-chain so the other sees it too.
